New: Easily Add Tables in Day One for Web https://dayoneapp.com/releases/add-tables-day-one-web/ Wed, 01 Oct 2025 20:03:48 +0000 https://dayoneapp.com/?post_type=release_notes&p=132400 Insert tables directly into your journal entries using the editor toolbar.

The post New: Easily Add Tables in Day One for Web appeared first on Day One | Your Journal for Life.

]]>
Starting in the latest version of Day One for the web, you can now insert tables directly into your journal entries using the editor toolbar.

While Markdown tables are supported across platforms, this update brings a simpler, more visual way to create and edit tables in the Day One web editor.

With just a few clicks, you can:

  • Insert a table with your chosen number of rows and columns.
  • Edit tables after creation, adding or removing rows and columns, or deleting the table altogether.
  • Format information in a structured, easy-to-reference format without needing to remember Markdown syntax.

Why Use Tables in Your Journal?

Tables can give structure to your journal entries when you need more than free-flowing text. They’re especially useful for:

  • Travel journals: Track simple expenses while on the road, like meals, transportation, or lodging, without breaking the flow of your story.
  • Mood tracking: Note your mood each day alongside factors like sleep, exercise, or social activity to see patterns over time.
  • Habit tracking: Record daily routines, workouts, or other habits in a way that’s easy to scan.
  • Lists and comparisons: Organize pros and cons, or compare plans vs. outcomes side by side.
  • Creative projects: Map out character traits for a story, meal plans for the week, or research notes in a more structured way.

How to Get Started

  1. Log in to Day One on the web. You can use the QR code to quickly log in and securely transfer your encryption key from your mobile device.
  1. Create a new journal entry or edit an existing entry. In the editor toolbar, click the new Table (grid) icon. You can also use the slash command /table.
  1. Choose your table size by selecting the number of columns and rows, then Create Table.
  1. Edit the table structure any time. Place your cursor in the table, click the Table icon again to add or delete rows or columns or delete the table.
  1. Day One will sync as usual, so your table appears across all your devices.

A Note on Editing Tables Across Devices

We’ve focused on adding and editing tables in Day One for the web first, where the larger screen and keyboard make table creation a smoother, more natural experience. Full support for adding and editing tables will be coming for iOS and Android in the future.

For now, on iOS and Android, tables added on Day One for the web will appear as read-only, so you can view any tables you’ve created or synced. If you’d like to keep writing on mobile, you can still add and edit Markdown tables in your entries.

Login Now to Add Tables on Web Today

Tables open up new ways to capture and organize the details of your life, whether you’re tracking moods, planning trips, or simply bringing order to scattered notes. Try them out on Day One for Web today, and see how structure can add clarity and depth to your journaling.

Day One Labs: Try Experimental AI Features

If you haven’t heard of Day One Labs, it’s our new way of letting you try experimental journaling features. Many of the features in Labs are powered by AI, and we know that brings important questions, especially around privacy and security. Just like the rest of Day One, these features are built with your privacy in mind. They’re optional, process only the entry or entries you choose, and never store or use your content for AI training. You can read more in our FAQs.

To get access to Day One Labs, sign up at dayoneapp.com/labs with your Day One account email and user ID.

Here’s what’s new for Labs in version 2025.13:

Go Deeper

Already available in Labs, Go Deeper uses AI to generate personalized and dynamic prompts in the editor based on what you’ve written, helping you reflect further and uncover new insights.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Start writing a journal entry as usual.
  2. Once you’ve written a few sentences, tap the new Go Deeper icon below the editor.
  3. You’ll get personalized prompts based on your entry. Tap one to insert it and continue journaling.

AI Title Suggestions

Sometimes the hardest part of journaling is knowing what to title your entry. AI Title Suggestions offer creative, context-aware titles based on what you’ve written.

After enabling in Labs, open any journal entry, tap the three-dot menu, and select Entry Title Suggestions. Choose a title that resonates and keep writing.

AI Image Generation

Now you can bring your entries to life with custom images generated by AI, based on your journal entry’s content. With AI Image Generation, you can choose from styles like Line Art, Analog Film, or Digital Art, and even customize how the image is generated by adjusting the prompt source.

Once you find an image to match your journal entry, tap Insert to add the image directly to your journal entry. It’s a beautiful way to visually represent what you’ve written.

Share Your Feedback

We’re excited to bring you tools that make journaling faster, more creative, and more insightful—whether you’re just getting started or have kept a journal for years. Let us know what you think about the new Labs features, and keep an eye on your inbox for more to come.

To get access to the new update, you’ll need to be running Day One for iOS version 2025.6 or higher. Coming soon for Android.

The New Journals and More Tabs

As part of this update, we’ve introduced two new tabs—Journals and More—to simplify navigation. The Journals tab keeps all your journals in one place for easy access, while the More tab organizes key features like On This Day, Daily Prompt, and Streaks in one convenient hub.

The New Journals Tab: Organize Your Life in Journals

Your journals are now conveniently located in a dedicated Journals tab. Having multiple journals is a great way to organize different parts of your life, whether you’re journaling for personal reflection, travel, gratitude, work, or creative projects.

The More Tab: Your New Hub for Key Features

Several core features have moved to the More tab for easier access:

  • Notifications – Stay informed about journaling activity.
  • On This Day – A redesigned experience for revisiting past memories.
  • Daily Prompt – Get fresh inspiration every day.
  • Add from Photo Library – Quickly import moments into your journal.
  • Streaks – Track and maintain your journaling habit.

A Redesigned On This Day Experience

We’ve completely reimagined On This Day, making it even easier to relive your past journal entries. With a larger focus on memory-keeping, this redesigned experience surfaces more of your past moments in a cleaner, more immersive layout. Whether you’re looking back on a milestone or rediscovering small, forgotten moments, On This Day makes it even more rewarding to revisit your journal.

Shuffle the Daily Prompt

Need a different journaling prompt? Now, you can shuffle the Daily Prompt to get a new one instantly. If the first prompt doesn’t resonate, simply tap the shuffle button to explore another idea. This gives you more flexibility and ensures there’s always something inspiring to write about.

A Powerful, 3-Column iPad Experience

This update brings a major improvement for iPad users with a redesigned 3-column layout that makes journaling more intuitive and efficient. With these enhancements, iPad users can enjoy a smoother, more immersive journaling experience, designed to take full advantage of the device’s larger screen, including:

  • New Sidebar Navigation – The Journal Management picker is now integrated into the sidebar, making it easier than ever to access and switch between journals.
  • Optimized for Multitasking – The expanded layout takes full advantage of the iPad’s screen, allowing for seamless navigation while keeping more of your content visible.
  • A More Desktop-Like Experience – The improved structure makes Day One on iPad feel more powerful and organized, bringing it closer to the experience of a full writing workspace.

Where to Find the Former Today View

For now, the previous Today view can now be accessed by tapping any date in the Calendar View within a journal. As we continue refining the More tab and introducing even more ways to streamline your journaling, we’ll be introducing new widgets for your Places and Calendar Events.

Share Your Feedback

These changes mark a major evolution in how you navigate Day One, and we’d love to hear what you think. Your feedback helps us refine and improve the experience for everyone. Share your feedback here.

A Step Toward a More Guided Journaling Experience

These changes pave the way for new features designed to enhance your journaling practice. With a refreshed navigation structure, we’re setting the stage for a more guided journaling experience, coming this summer.

Thank you for being part of the Day One community—we’re excited for what’s ahead!
