If that process gets cut off\u2014like when you close the app or lock your phone\u2014the transfer process will pick up where it left off the next time the app is opened without any problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, in rare cases, if the app never has a chance to transfer those files, then the app isn&#8217;t able to sync the media correctly. In cases like this, it\u2019s possible that you might see a low-resolution thumbnail version of the photo or no photo at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To help make sure all photos and other files have a chance to fully upload, we are building improved sync status indicators so that you can be made aware if there are files or entries that are still pending to upload to the server.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-fixing-missing-media\">Fixing Missing Media<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you still have access to the original photos, we built tools to make it as easy as possible to re-upload them to your journal. In most cases, the thumbnail can be tapped in the entry and a menu will appear. If you choose to \u201creplace\u201d the media, our photo selector will open and automatically scroll to the date where your original photo should be so that you can easily re-add it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you need further assistance after trying the in-app tools, we can also help you investigate any missing images, videos, or audio. Please reach out to Day One support with answers to the following questions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">iOS<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you tap Settings &gt; Sync &gt; Storage is Optimize Device Storage checked?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If so, does the media restore itself if you check &#8220;Download All Media&#8221; in Settings > Sync > Storage?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-android\">Android<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you tap Settings > Sync is Optimize Local Media Storage checked?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If so, does the media restore itself if you disable Optimize Local Media Storage?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-all-platforms\">All platforms<\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have you recently moved entries from one journal to another?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have you recently changed the encryption settings for any Journal?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What method was used to add the missing images? Did you share them to the app, or did you upload them directly into an entry while editing?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>It would also be helpful if you could share diagnostics from all devices that are showing the missing media, along with the Entry IDs for a few entries with the missing media.
